DENNY HOWARD Glazing Techniques
SCHEDULE:Saturday, 9am-1pm, May 17, 2008
FEE: $40
At this workshop, YOU!, the participant will be the star performers. The emphasis is on you glazing your pots. Each participant will glaze and decorate, as they choose, several pieces (please bring 2 to 5 bisque pieces) with assistance and suggestions from Denny.
You will be learning from your efforts and the efforts of the other participants, while Denny will be acting as a facilitator as well as providing structure and advice.
During this workshop you will be utilizing various techniques to develop competence in the glazing process (we are firing cone 6 oxidation, glazes in house). This process will include:
* planning/visualization
* bisque preparation
* waxing techniques
* applying glazes by pouring and dipping
* decorating using brushes with colorants and wax resist
* importance of record keeping
* evaluating fired pieces
* applying the information gained
Day One - is the glazing day, so come prepared to get dirty. We will agree on a second day to get together to evaluate the work.
At the end of this workshop you will have gained additional glazing knowledge as well as honed your glazing skills and hopefully will have some finished pots that will inspire you to do more with the next pots that you make.
